AAA Archicad Laws - Law 9:

Assign layers correctly

Correctly assigned layers are what ever CAD manager strives for & what every layer combination needs.

Every line, object, fill or text that you place must have its layer set correctly.

Without layers - layer combinations are meaningless.

The best way to go is to keep the number of starting layers to a minimum, allow for the sensible creation of new layers when needed.

Remember also that Archicad is object or 3D based and not the same as a 2D drafting program. Because elements are separated by object type, fewer layers are needed than in 2D programs.

Below is a snapshot of our standard starting layers which work as follows;

  • Prefix 0 (Items appear in 2D, or 2D and 3D)
  • Prefix 3D (Items appear in 3D only)
  • Prefix X (These items are special, such as area fills, set-out items or construction lines)
