May House - Dee Why

Areas:
Site = 680 sqm, Floor area = 272 sqm

Construction Budget:
$550k +

Status:
Design on hold as of 2008

Brief:
This existing site presented a single-storey, older style brick house with distant panoramic ocean views and a perfect north aspect to the rear. It also comprised of some poorly conceived renovations completed by the owners that were failing to achieve their aspirations for the home overall.

Solution:
The project evolved into a complete makeover, which incorporated an upper level addition, taking advantage of the views and integrating perfectly with the original footprint to create a landmark design.

The ground floor was completely reconfigured and the existing pitched roof was removed to incorporate the addition. The upper level comprised of three bedrooms, new bathroom and master suite complete with ensuite, walk in wardrobe and sizeable outdoor decking.

The extensive courtyard spaces and external covered deck areas were created to facilitate outdoor living with a new timber decked ramp making a real feature of the entrance.

This design is a great example of an upper level addition with a seamless intergration between old and new to create a functional and modern home.
