Advice for Neighbours
A neighbour's development application can feel overwhelming. We help you understand what it means and what you can do.
Know your rights
Receiving a neighbour notification letter from council is unsettling. We can help you read what's proposed, understand your rights, and decide whether and how to respond.
What we help you understand
- What the proposed development actually involves
- Whether the design complies with planning controls
- The grounds on which an objection can be made
- How to write an effective submission to council
- The difference between a DA and Complying Development
- What happens at a council assessment hearing
Complying Development
If your neighbour's project is Complying Development (CDC), the rules are different — neighbours have very limited rights to object. We can explain exactly what this means for your situation and whether there are any grounds to challenge the certificate.
Your submission
A good objection is specific and factual — it refers to particular planning controls, not just personal concerns. We can review the plans with you and help you identify legitimate planning grounds for your submission.
Our involvement as your advisor does not constitute legal advice. For matters that proceed to the Land and Environment Court, we recommend engaging a planning solicitor alongside an architect.
