Concept Design

The stage where your brief becomes a fully resolved design — built in 3D from day one, so you can see and feel it before anything is built.

Where ideas become homes

Concept design is the creative heart of the process. It's where all the constraints, aspirations and site realities are resolved into a clear architectural vision — and because every project at AAA begins life as a three-dimensional model, that vision is something you can actually walk through, not just imagine from a flat plan.

Designed in 3D from the very first sketch

We adopted ArchiCAD's Building Information Modelling (BIM) platform in 2000 — and haven't drawn a flat 2D plan since. Over 25 years of designing every project in full three dimensions has fundamentally changed how we work and what clients experience.

BIM means the 3D model and the construction drawings are the same thing. Every wall, window, roof form and room proportion exists in space first. When changes are made in 3D, the drawings update automatically — there's no version where the plans and the model disagree.

"We've been designing in three dimensions for over 25 years. Every project begins as a 3D model — because you simply can't make good design decisions from flat plans alone."

Walk through your home before it's built

At key stages throughout the design process, we export an interactive 3D walkthrough using BIMx — a free app you can install on your phone, tablet or computer. From concept stage, you can literally walk through your home at human eye height, stand in the kitchen and look out to the garden, check how light enters the living room in the afternoon, and explore every room exactly as it will be built.

This isn't a visualisation service bolted on at the end — it's how we design. The model is updated as the project progresses through design development, DA drawings, and into construction documentation.

You can try a sample walkthrough right now — download the free BIMx viewer and explore a real AAA project on your device. Download the sample model →

How Adam designs

The 3D-first process shapes how design decisions are made. Because we're working in space rather than on paper, the design instincts are different — and the results are too.

Start with the brief

Your needs and priorities shape everything. Adam listens closely during the Initial Service meeting and builds a brief that genuinely reflects what matters to you — not what an architect thinks should matter.

Find the big rocks first

The major spatial and structural decisions anchor the design. In 3D, these decisions are immediately testable — you can see at once whether a volume works, whether a ceiling height feels right, whether a view is framed correctly.

Keep it simple

Designs naturally grow complex as they evolve. Adam's approach resists that tendency — a clear, simple idea executed well is almost always superior to a complicated one, and 3D makes complexity visible early.

No ego in the process

This is a design journey for you, not for Adam. He steps into your shoes, making your needs his own. The walkthrough model puts you in control of seeing and understanding the design on your own terms.

One best solution

Adam presents the best solution, not a menu of options. Offering multiple alternatives shifts decision-making back to the client in an area where the architect's judgement is what they're paying for.

Any style you choose

Hamptons, minimalist, coastal, contemporary, modern Australian — we work in the style that's right for you and your site. The 3D model means you can see how that style actually reads in space before anything is committed.

Better decisions, fewer surprises

The most common source of disappointment in construction is the gap between what a client imagined from the drawings and what was actually built. Three-dimensional design closes that gap almost entirely. By the time construction begins, you've already walked through the space mentally dozens of times — there are no surprises, only confirmation of what you already know is right.

This is the real value of 25 years of 3D design practice: not just the technology, but the accumulated understanding of how to use it so that clients make decisions they feel genuinely confident in.

BIM design since 2000

Every project begins its life as a 3D model

ArchiCAD BIM software means your home is fully modelled in three dimensions before a single drawing is issued. The 3D model and the construction documents are one and the same thing — no translation, no gaps, no surprises between what was designed and what gets built.

Using BIMx, we publish your model to a dedicated page so you can explore it on any device, at any time. We update it at every stage, so you always have the latest design in your hands.
