Cube House
The brief
Views, light, and a clean contemporary form.
The existing two-storey brick home on this Seaforth site had reached the end of its useful life. The brief was to start fresh — demolish and replace with a contemporary family home that made the most of the northerly aspect and captured the district and ocean views the elevated site offered.
To maximise the view corridors, the house was positioned toward the front setback, freeing up the rear for outdoor living, the feature pool, and generous entertaining spaces that open to the northern sun.
The result is a clean, cubic form with strong horizontal lines — a home that reads as confident and contemporary from the street while remaining warm and liveable inside.
The design thinking
The north as the generator.
Every decision in this house traces back to one ambition: maximise northerly light and the elevated views over the Manly district to the ocean beyond. The site planning, section, and window placement all serve this goal.
By stepping the house forward to the front setback, we created a generous rear zone for pool and outdoor living that faces true north. The cubic form emerged naturally — a disciplined geometry that keeps the architecture from competing with the landscape it frames.
