The brief
Contemporary design on a sloping bush site.
The existing brick home was set on a sloping site within a beautiful bush setting. The client brief required the home to be demolished and replaced with a much larger contemporary home featuring additional attic space.
By carefully responding to the site's north-facing aspect, we designed free-flowing living areas that maximise natural light and views. The dual frontage allowed the creation of an impressive south entrance, revealing a dramatic free-standing internal staircase framed by a glass curtain wall.
Stretching the limits of council controls, the design achieves four full levels incorporating generous attic space. The completed home was onsold shortly after completion for a record price for the street, highlighting the value of thoughtful design and careful planning.
Perfect design for the constraints of the site.

The design thinking
Working with the constraints of the site.
The sloping site presented both challenges and opportunities. Rather than fighting the topography, we embraced it, creating a home that steps down the slope with each level revealing new spatial possibilities.
The dramatic glass curtain wall at the south entrance becomes a signature element, framing the sculptural internal staircase and creating a striking focal point. By maximising the northerly aspect, we ensured that the primary living areas enjoy optimal natural light and orientation throughout the day.
