The brief
The clients wanted all the warmth and timelessness of the Hamptons aesthetic — double-height entry void, wide board flooring, shaker cabinetry, crisp white rendered masonry — without the formulaic approach that turns a style into a cliché. The challenge was to make it feel genuinely considered rather than copied.
The plan is organised around a generous central living zone that flows seamlessly from the kitchen through to the alfresco entertaining area and rear yard. An outdoor kitchen extends the cooking and dining space year-round, bringing the indoor–outdoor connection that Northern Beaches living demands.
Upstairs, the bedrooms are grouped for quiet and privacy, with the master suite positioned to capture the best of the morning light. The entry void below keeps the house feeling open and airy even on overcast days.
The double-height entry sets the tone from the moment you walk in — it makes a house feel like a home.

Hamptons architecture has a reputation for being more about aesthetic than architecture — all weatherboard and shutters without the spatial thinking that makes a home genuinely liveable. This project set out to prove otherwise.
The proportions are carefully considered: the entry void is tall enough to feel genuinely generous, not just taller-than-average. The kitchen bench runs long enough to work in, not just photograph well. The alfresco is deep enough to seat a family for a meal in the rain without crowding the outdoor furniture.
The result is a home that wears its style lightly — recognisably Hamptons, but first and foremost a well-resolved family house on Sydney's Northern Beaches.
