Vintage House Hunter Valley - All Australian Architecture
Brief

The brief involved designing a new single-storey holiday home on a large mostly flat block at the Vintage in the Hunter Valley. Our clients called for the use of rammed earth and polished concrete and asked that we take advantage of the aspect with a passive solar design.

The house needed four bedrooms, two bathrooms, space for two cars and a golf buggy, as well as a 15m pool and entertaining alfresco.

Response

Our design is for a long pavilion style home that turns it's back on the street and all the neighbours while making the most of the northerly outlook. A gabled entrance shows off the rammed earth walls that run along the front of the house. The length of the building sits under a skillion roof with exposed timber rafters.

A secondary wing of the house allows the master bedroom to be set further away, creating a quiet space to retreat to when the house is busy with family and friends.
