Ocean House
Design concept
The brief
White forms by the water.
Ocean House is an architect-designed concept for a contemporary family home in Freshwater — one of Sydney's most sought-after coastal suburbs. The design explores how white curving forms and thick window reveals can create a home that is striking from the street yet calm inside.
The composition is deliberately bold: a white rendered facade with deep-set windows that control light and heat, a generous ground floor living zone that opens to the north, and an upper level that steps back from the street to reduce the apparent bulk while maximising ocean views.
This design concept is available for development. If you own or are purchasing a site in Freshwater or the surrounding area, we would welcome a conversation about what's possible.
Design story
Coastal architecture without the clichés.
Freshwater has been building beach houses for over a century. The vernacular is well established: weatherboard, verandahs, corrugated iron. Ocean House proposes something different — not in spite of its location, but because of it.
The white rendered forms echo the surf and the light of the headland. The thick reveals and recessed windows respond to the sun angles specific to this latitude and aspect. The result is a home that is unmistakably of its place without borrowing from any historical style.
